Normanhurst Uniting Church Musical Society (NSW) presents Man of La Mancha from October 7 – 22, 2011.
Man of La Mancha is the story of Miguel de Cervantes, a failed author and poet in 16th century Spain. Imprisoned to await trial by the Spanish Inquisition, and placed before a mock court of his fellow prisoners, he attempts to save the manuscript of his book by giving a performance of the story - the tale of a man who imagines himself to be a gallant Knight, Don Quixote de La Mancha.
Licorice Allsorts, iPads and Cyndi Lauper aren’t images usually associated with Gilbert and Sullivan’s perennial operetta favourite, The Mikado – but the Gilbert and Sullivan Society has been turning Japanese in the strangest way for its next production.
Shoot for the Moon Theatricals (Ballarat, Victoria), in conjunction with Curtain Call Performing Arts Studios present the energetic musical comedy Bye Bye Birdie on September 17 and 18. Featuring a local cast of 80, this musical boasts such songs as Put on a Happy Face, Kids and One Last Kiss.
Willoughby Theatre Company will present the inaugural production in the brand new Theatre on the Concourse (Chatswod NSW), one of Australia’s most popular musicals, The Boy From Oz.
The Concoursein Chatswood is a brand new performing arts centre on Victoria Avenue in the heart of Chatswood shopping precinct opening in September 2011 incorporating a state of the art 1000 seat Concert Hall, a 500 seat Theatre, a Civic Pavilion, Studio and Library.
Heildeberg Theatre Company (Vic) presents The 39 Steps, Patrick Barlow’s entertaining adaptation of the John Buchan / Alfred Hitchcock Espionage classic, from September 15 to October 1, 2011.
The 39 Steps follows the hilarious trials and tribulations of the wrongly accused Richard Hannay as he evades police and finds love while trying to foil the fiendish plot of a devilishly brilliant mastermind. On stage is a rollicking thriller-romance script with madcap vaudeville like comic routines and a delightful array of characters.
Things are not always what they seem – as evidenced in the September / October production at Limelight Theatre, Wanneroo (W.A.), with its puzzle of scattered clues, mixed motives and concealed identities.
Written by Agatha Christie and directed by Sue Mainwaring, A Murder Is Announced is set in an English country village house and features the famed amateur detective Miss Marple.
In A Murder Is Announced, a killing is advertised in the local paper with the location – and people turn up, waiting for the crime to unfold.
