Abyss

Fringe World. Directed by Rebecca Price.Paper Mountain, Wellington St, Northbridge, WA. Jan 29-30, 2018

On a black set, on an unlit stage, solo performer Rebecca Price, dressed in an old style diving helmet and gear, and weighed down with chains, goes through a daily routine.

An interesting exploration of living life in the abyss, with the weight of the world on your shoulders.

An essentially wordless performance piece, except for the well constructed audiovisuals, it is underscored by emotive old-style jazz. Some of the narration on the film is difficult to discern, but this does not detract from the message.

Soup

A Rhapsody in Red

The Wicked Stage. Fringe World. Connections Night Club, Northbridge, WA. Jan 26 - 31, 2018

A Rhapsody in Red is a sweet, sexy and strange tribute to the 1960s, featuring three fabulous performers with amazing voices, top notch choreography and great warmth. Presented by The Wicked Stage and starring The CoverGirls, it is an instruction guide to finding a husband, and living life as a modern sixties girl.

Murder Mystery History

Fringe World. Directed by Christie Strauss. An Sibin Irish Pub and surrounding area, WA. Jan 29 - Feb 6, 2018

Murder Mystery History is part local tour, part history lesson, a little bit of a ghost hunt, has some great tales of murder and features fabulous storytelling from a talented actress.

Christie Strauss leads a group through Northbridge and the Perth Cultural Centre, telling tales of crimes and killing. An excellent and expertly researched raconteur, Christie’s theatrically delivered stories had the audience enthralled by the murder, mayhem and mystery that occurred in supposably sleepy Perth. This is site specific theatre as well as a tour.

Cull

The Very Good Looking Initiative. Fringe World. The Blue Room, Northbridge, WA. 27 Jan - 3 Feb, 2018

Honor and Patrick decide to cull their Facebook friends. In the process the audience are taken through a wild 70 minutes of the worst excesses of social media, in what would have to be the most energetic performances in town.

The Very Good Looking Initiative present this fascinating and cleverly crafted show. While the story is great, and the performances excellent, the best part of this show is the extreme energy and enthusiasm of performers Patrick Durnan Silva and Honor Wolff, who get barely a second’s rest in this high powered show.

The sexier sister to Impromptunes - The Completely Improvised Musical, The Bachela-la-la is a naughty late night improvised musical based on The Bachelor/The Bachelorette franchise. Aimed at adults, the audience are kept laughing from the time we meet the contestants until the moment that a ring is placed on the winner’s finger.

Play Time

Back Door Productions. Fringe World (WA). The Black Flamingo, The Pleasure Garden, Russell Square, Northbridge, WA. Jan 27 -31, 2018

Play Time is what may happen if children’s television was made for young adults. We join Adam, Kate, Liv and Jake as they learn important things that young adults should know.

Fun and colourfull, it uses a Playschool-like format to teach adult skills to the characters and audience.

SUGAR

Paper Haus Theatre Co. Fringe World (WA). The Black Flamingo at the Pleasure Garden, Russell Square, Northbridge. Jan 27 - Feb 4, 2018

SUGAR is a very pink, very sweet, celebration of a performance, which beneath its sugary surface deals with important issues of anxiety, self esteem and the pressures faced by young women.

Central character Sugar (a picture perfect and delightful Claire Thomas), is feeling rejected, anxious and alone after a really disastrous party. She turns to the internet for help and finds “The Fixits”, a latter-day Spice Girls on steroids, who promise that they can fix any problem.
