The Cake Man

by Bob Merrit
The Cake Man tells with great simplicity of the crushing poverty, courage and despair of life on a NSW Aboriginal mission. An examination of white paternalism from a black point of view, The Cake Man was the first play produced by the National Black Theatre, Redfern in 1975. The play is notable for being the first play written by an Indigenous Australian to be published, televised and to tour out of Australia.
