Adelaide Hills Arts Community Hub Seeks Volunteers

Adelaide Hills Arts Community Hub Seeks Volunteers

The picturesque Stirling Community Theatre on Avenue Road has been nestled between the steamroller park and the kindy for over 130 years.

The historic building is home to some of Adelaide’s most respected community performing arts groups, including the Stirling Players, the Hills Musical Company, the Hills Youth Theatre and Carolan School of Ballet and includes a 200-seat auditorium, stage, rehearsal spaces, orchestra pit and ballet room.

In the current Covid-19 climate, the venue was forced to close its doors in March and has since been dark, missing the buzz of opening night audiences, plays, musicals and classes.

While the house lights might be dimmed for a little while longer, the small Management Committee of the Stirling Community Theatre (or SCT), led by Malcolm Horton (President), Anna Grosser (Vice President) and Erik Strauts (Treasurer) continue to volunteer their time and expertise to the upgrade and development of the venue in collaboration with the Adelaide Hills Council.

New lighting equipment, repairs and maintenance of the heritage building and review of its onsite set and costumes storage, as well as ongoing governance and administration keeps this institution going.

The volunteer committee consists of individuals from all around the Adelaide Hills as well as representatives from the resident companies. There is much to be achieved and the connection between the community and performing arts is a driving force for everyone involved.

The SCT committee is seeking 2 new volunteer members to take on general committee roles and/or the executive role of secretary. Volunteers would benefit from being a part of the theatre and could bring any number of skills to the group. This may include governance, legal, marketing, construction/handyman, technical, sewing/costuming, project management, administrative along with an interest in live theatre and the performing arts.

Expressions of interest are welcomed by contacting President, Malcolm Horton on or 0421 555 137 to discuss these volunteer roles in more detail.
