CLOC Creates Hollywood Magic for Sunset

Melbourne’s CLOC Musical Theatre has a firmly established and well‑earned reputation as one of Australia’s pre‑eminent community musical theatre companies.  Since its establishment in 1964, CLOC has produced 95 shows covering the entire gamut of music theatre, incorporating numerous Australasian premieres, and has won over 100 Music Theatre Guild awards for excellence, including eight times being awarded Production of the Year.

Queensland independent musical theatre company Blue Fish Theatrical are gearing up for their 2012 season of the Kander and Ebb musical Chicago, which opens on April 19.

It’s an exciting show for Blue Fish's cast, musicians and creatives, who describe Chicago as the ultimate "dream show", saying “intense passion, training and commitment has underscored the company's rehearsal process in its effort to honour this acclaimed musical gem.”

Parramatta Girls for South Perth

REAL-life stories of former inmates at the notorious Parramatta Girls’ Training School in NSW have been combined Alana Valentine’s Parramatta Girls, making its WA premiere at the Old Mill Theatre from May 11, 2012.

Parramatta Girls follows the story of eight girls at their 40-year reunion.

The girls were innocent victims of a harsh regime but had their own ways of coping with the system that oppressed them, trying to make good in tough times.

Balancing Family and Theatre in Sunset Boulevard at CLOC

When CLOC Musical Theatre’s Australasian non-professional premiere of Sunset Boulevard hits the stage at the National Theatre in St Kilda on May 4, there will be a strong family factor amidst all that Hollywood glamour and intrigues.

Two real-life couples, Mark and Hayley Doran (pictured below), and David and Suzanne Gedicke (pictured left), have been balancing the demands of family and rehearsal over the past few months to share the stage in CLOC’s production. All four were theatrical performers of note before becoming partners.

Castle Hill Players (NSW) will present Matt Cameron’s Australian drama Ruby Moon from April 13, 2012.

Ruby Moon is a hauntingly evocative journey into the hearts and minds of Sylvia and Ray Moon, whose little girl Ruby disappeared without trace from her own street in Flaming Tree Grove. Itis an atmospheric blend of drama, pathos and unexpected humour.

Jane Austen Classic Emma for Melville Stage

A TIMELESS love story from one of the most widely-read writers of all time comes to the Melville Theatre (WA) stage from May 4, 2012.

Jane Austen's Emma is a beautiful and clever young woman who prides herself on her matchmaking ability – but while she’s preoccupied with romance, she’s clueless to her own feelings of love.

When Emma takes on a young friend as her latest project, her well-intentioned efforts misfire, leading to a whirlwind of complications.

From Von Trapp Toddler to Sound of Music Director

When Hornsby Musical Society (NSW) presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music at Hornsby RSL from April 13, the production will be directed by Laura Sheldon, a lifelong member of Hornsby Musical Society and former Von Trapp Family member, who has previously appeared in two productions of The Sound of Music.

Face to Face: Williamson Community Conferencing Play for Stirling

David Williamson’s Face to Face will be staged by young, emerging director Brendan Ellis for Stirling Players (WA) in May 2012.

As the first part of Williamson’s Jack Manning Trilogy, this dramatic and character-driven play takes its format in a realistic setting of ‘community conferencing.’

When young construction worker Glen rams into the back of his boss’s Mercedes in a fit of anger at being sacked, he is given the opportunity to discuss his actions in a community conference, rather than going straight to court.

The Madness and Mozart of Cosi for MATES.

MATES Theatre Society (Redlands, Qld) present the classic Australian comedy Cosi at Birkdale School of Arts Hall from April 13 – May 5.

Written by Louis Nowra, Cosi explores the complex and sensitive subject of mental health. It tells the story of Lewis (played by Conor Ensor), a young amateur theatre director who is offered a job with a Government program in a Sydney institution for the mentally ill.

Maureen Gets Ready for Her Close-Up

CLOC Musical Theatre (Melbourne) is preparing to launch its 2012 season with the Australasian non-professional premiere of the musical adaptation of the 1950 classic Billy Wilder movie Sunset Boulevard.
