Broadway Bound at The Theatre on Chester
Neil Simon’s autobiographical play Broadway Bound is playing at The Theatre on Chester, North Epping, NSW, from 1st - 23rd August 2025, directed by Carla Moore
The radio crackles to life. You swish the knobs and it jumps between stations fading in and out of static until the sound of big band music fades in clearly. The music program is finishing. You look around the living room you grew up in. Your dad is late. But everyone else is expectantly gathered to listen to the comedy sketch program that’s on next. Your comedy debut. You catch your brother, your writing partners eye as your mom begins to fuss. Maybe this was a bad idea…
Broadway Bound is a tender and comedic portrait of the Jerome family in post war Brooklyn, NY. The third in an autobiographical series of plays by Neil Simon, it remains one of his classics, and best of all you need not have seen the first two to fully appreciate this.
Directed by Life member, Carla Moore and with an all-star cast which includes your favourites: Jordan Andrews (Things I know to be True, Peach Season, Lifespan of a fact), Catherine Potter (Two Ladies and an Emu), Ross Alexander (Two Ladies and an Emu), Cassie Gorman (Clue, Home I’m Darling), joined by newcomers to the Chestie stage, Cameron Sutton and Nick Roberts. Long time Chestie members Phil Lye and Joy and Tom Sweeney (who were in the original of the trilogy, Brighton Beach Memoirs) also secretly sneak into the production so keep an ear out for them!
The set builders have wrapped the cast in a beautiful period house which promises to bring nostalgic memories to the fore and have risen to the challenge of creating an ‘upstairs’ on the not-very-tall-stage.
The company promises a nicely heated theatre this August for Broadway Bound!
