CLOC Promises A Knight to Remember

Director/designer/performer Shaun Kingma, who is directing CLOC Musical Theatre’s Chess this October, has built an enviable reputation on both sides of the footlights in the Melbourne music theatre scene over thirty years. Starting as a child performer, he and his soaring baritone voice have graced lead roles in productions as varied as Sweeney Todd, Les Misérables, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Rent, Assassins, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the Beast and Seussical.

As a director and/or designer, Shaun has helmed five previous CLOC shows -Blood Brothers, Man of La Mancha, Aspects of Love, Jesus Christ Superstar (which won eight Victorian Music Theatre Guild awards, including Production of the Year) and Jekyll & Hyde.  

Shaun's specialty has been spectacular reinterpretations of shows with a darker edge, and Chess is no exception. This time, Shaun has employed audio-visual technology, multi-media, and a range of lighting and sound effects to highlight the intricate complexities of the story and bedazzle audiences, which will be a feast for the senses.

CLOC will bring Chess to the National Theatre stage from October 6-21.
