Witches of Eastwick Get Ready to Fly at MLOC

Rehearsals are well under way for MLOC’s June production of The Witches of Eastwick.

Director Jane Court notes that there are great roles in the show for all ages, ranging from the Little Girl, played by twelve year old Lily Nicolson, to the more mature lead male role of Darryl Van Horne. The abundant female roles, including four main leads and five minor roles, have attracted many strong women performers.

Canberra Area Theatre Awards

The Canberra Area Theatre Awards were a spectacular success in 2012.  It was a night filled with tight and terrific entertainment. And this year everyone got out by 11pm – Bravo.

The Canberra Repertory Theatre was the big winner taking out five awards. Its most celebrated production was The Pig Iron People.

One of the Actors said in his acceptance speech that it was so good he wished he’d seen it.

The Orange Theatre Company was honoured for its productions of both plays and musicals.

WA Premiere: Boston Marriage by David Mamet

A PLAY from award-winning US playwright David Mamet will have its WA Premiere from April 13, 2012 at Roleystone Theatre.

Directed by Eliot McCann, Boston Marriage focuses on two women living together at the turn of the 20th century,on the fringes of upper-class society.

Their intimate relationship hits troubled waters and both tussle for the upper hand as one becomes a wealthy man’s mistress and the other becomes infatuated with a young girl.

The Mousetrap set for Strathmore

STAG (Strathmore, Victoria) commemorates the 60th Anniversary of Agatha Christie’s mystery The Mousetrap with a production directed by Drew Mason. The Mousetrap will be presented at the Strathmore Community Hall from March 1 to 10.

The longest running 'whodunit' in the world, The Mousetrap, is now about to be presented in Strathmore.

Feathers to Fly on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Flying Feathers, a risqué farce written by Derek Benfield and directed by the Sunshine Coast’s award winning Nancy Kinmond, will be presented Coolum Theatre Players on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast from March 23.

It is set in England at the country house of Bernard who has gone to live in a religious community in Scotland.  In his absence, a new housekeeper has used her initiative in a creative way, resulting in hilarious confusion when Bernard’s brother Henry, a Chief Constable, arrives unannounced with his sister Sarah.

Songs for a New World for Sydney’s South

Rockdale Musical Society (NSW) will present Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown from March 16 – 24, 2012.

Australian premiere: ’80s retro all go in Joan of Arc rock opera

WHAT happens when you take the famed story of a 15th century French peasant girl and mix it up with the smooth grooves of the ’80s?

The answer is the Australian premiere of rock opera Virgin Warrior, written by Zig Byfield and Peter Perchard, at Perth’s Phoenix Theatre from March 1, 2012.

Directed by Jane Sherwood, it follows the story of 14-year-old Joan of Arc through song as she leaves home and demands an army from a nobleman, repeatedly defeating the English enemy.

Lyrebird Awards 2011 Winners.

The 2011 Lyrebird Awards, recognizing and celebrating theatre in the outer Eastern region of Melbourne, were established in 1994 were held at Karralyka Theatre on Saturday February 11, 2012.

13 The Musical for The Shire

Shire Music Theatre (NSW) has assembled a cast of a dozen talented teens and tweens to produce the Broadway musical “13” in Sydney’s south.

Set in a small town in Indiana, "13" is a grown-up story about growing up! 

Steel Magnolias for Stirling WA.

Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling will be the first production for of 2012 for Stirling Players in Perth, WA, following the postponement of their scheduled production of  La Cage Aux Folles, due to unforeseen circumstances.
