Gas Light Thriller to Grip Encore Theatre Audiences

Gas Light Thriller to Grip Encore Theatre Audiences

Gas Light at Clayton Community Centre | 24 April to 3 May 2026

Encore Theatre will present Gas Light, Patrick Hamilton’s gripping psychological thriller, playing at Clayton Community Centre from 24 April to 3 May 2026.

Now in its 29th year, Encore Theatre has built a proud tradition of bringing compelling, high-quality theatre to the local community. This production of Gas Light marks another bold chapter in that story — a return to the play that gave the world one of its most chilling and resonant concepts.

Written in 1938, Gas Light is the origin of the term we now know as “gaslighting.” Long before the word entered the cultural lexicon, Patrick Hamilton put it on stage — a story of manipulation, psychological torment, and one woman’s desperate fight to trust her own mind. Tense, atmospheric and deeply unsettling, it is theatre that gets under your skin and stays there.

This production brings together a cast of five, led by Freya Timmer-Arends as Bella and Paul Wanis as Jack, with Giuseppe Mauceri as Detective Rough, Freddie Moon as Elizabeth, and Caitlin Shepherd as Nancy. Kym Davies directs, with Melanie Bouette as Assistant Director.

Whether you know the word but not its origin, or simply love theatre that keeps you on the edge of your seat, Gas Light is not to be missed. Atmospheric, intelligent, and utterly compelling — this is the story that started it all.

Gas Light plays at Clayton Community Centre from 24 April to 3 May 2026. Tickets available at trybooking.com/DIYOJ.
