JURASSIC Sings and Dances

JURASSIC! That is one big pile of musical, a comedic parody of the film Jurassic Park, takes place at The Phoenix Theatre, Coniston NSW from March 5 – 8, 2014.

‘65 Million and 2 years in the making,’ JURASSIC! follows the plot of the multi-award winning Steven Spielberg film Jurassic Park; an island theme park suffers a power shortage during its preview, leaving the visitors trapped with the newly released exhibits; dinosaurs!

Written and directed by actor and comedian Leigh Scott, JURASSIC!  features Velociraptor attacks and a T-Rex escape –with one major (and minor!) difference: an upbeat musical score!

Jurassic Park was always been a huge passion of mine,” says Leigh Scott Since I was 5, the first time I saw those amazing dinosaurs, those marvelous locations, and the Jeff Goldblum, I was – uhhhh – hooked.

“The first time I went to a museum, I only cared about the dinosaurs. My first birthday cake was Triceratops. My first costume party I wanted to go as a T-Rex (my mother misconstrued that request and I ended up being the only one there dressed as Dorothy the Dinosaur, but that’s another story.)

“It wasn’t until 12 years later I was listening to Legally Blonde The Musical with a friend of mine, and we began to joke about what other movies would make hilarious musicals. We had Taken, Amityville Horror, and I mentioned Jurassic Park. The spark was born.

“Initially, I wrote a serious version of the musical – taking him a 5 page treatment. He took one look at it and told me it was absolutely, positively, awful (What are friends for?) ‘Although, it would make a great parody…’ It all made sense.

“Over the next year and a half, I worked though the film, frame by frame, line by line, and tore it apart, rebuilding what we have today.

“Being such a huge fan of the film, I was writing something that I know I would want to see, knowing other super fans of the film would love, but also people who love theatre.

“This show brings the memorable elements and inaccuracies of the film together with some unforgettable musical numbers – John Hammond has still ‘Spared No Expense’, and there’s still an inevitable ‘Clever Girl’; but there’s so much more this show – heart-pounding action; unlikely romance; and, if you’re still not convinced, tap-dancing Velociraptors. (Need I say more?)”

"It's exactly like the movie, but there are small changes. Embellishments that help the character arch and certain traits are blown out of proportion, which is great," says Johnny Acosta (playing John Hammond).

"To call me a fan is to do the word 'fan' an injustice. I know the inflection of every single word of dialogue in that movie. I watched it in the cinema and it was there in the great sound and spectrum of it all, I've kept watching it and now I'm here in the musical. And it's hilarious."

Journey on an adventure to an island overrun by musical spectacle and tap-dancing dinosaurs alike.
