The Regals Musical Society Celebrates 80 Years with Sondheim’s Company

The Regals Musical Society is will close out its 80th anniversary with a new production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical Company, playing from 15 to 19 October 2025 at Rockdale Town Hall.

Founded in 1945, The Regals Musical Society has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s community theatre scene for eight decades. To celebrate this incredible milestone, The Regals are staging Company – a witty, emotionally rich, and musically brilliant show that continues to captivate audiences.

Directed by Sophie Szecsodi, with musical direction by Lindford Gilmour, and choreography by Nikolas Villa Zielinski, Company follows Robert, a perpetual bachelor, during another celebration – his 35th birthday.

“Company is the perfect blend of musical and stageplay - brimming with loveable and layered characters complimented by a witty and moving score. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll undoubtedly find someone on stage that you connect with, says Szecsodi.

The audience watches as Robert navigates love, friendship, and the complexities of modern relationships through a series of vignettes featuring his married friends and girlfriends. With a score including songs like ‘Being Alive’, ‘Side by Side,’ and ‘The Ladies Who Lunch’, this production offers a heartfelt and humorous reflection on connection and commitment.

“But it’s not just the script and score that make this show so memorable - it’s the people,” Szecsodi adds. “I’ve been so privileged to work with a talented, dedicated and downright hilarious cast, who each bring their own flair to their roles.”

With only six performances, this limited season is a must-see event in Sydney’s community theatre calendar. Don’t miss the chance to experience one of Sondheim’s greatest works, brought to life.
