Step into the Spotlight with Ken Ludwig’s Shakespeare in Hollywood
The Adelaide Repertory Theatre’s latest production, Shakespeare in Hollywood, written by Ken Ludwig, and directed by Jude Hines, opens on July 17.
Get ready to be transported to the golden age of Hollywood in a mix of comedy, chaos, and Shakespearean mischief! Shakespeare in Hollywood by Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig features witty dialogue, fast-paced humour, and star-studded intrigue.
Based on the original film, it's a screwball comedy with supernatural elements, a fun-filled romp that pays homage to both Shakespeare and the golden age of Hollywood.
It's 1934, and Shakespeare's most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialised on the set of the Warner Brothers film set of ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. the least.
Jude Hines is well known for her direction of Ludwig’s plays, musicals and other award-winning productions. In 2024 Jude directed Jersey Boys for Therry Theatre.
The cast includes Penni Hamilton-Smith as Louella Parsons, Malcolm Walton as Joe E Brown, Tom Adams as James Cagney with Stephen Bills and Emily Burns as the irrepressible, magical Oberon and Puck and an ensemble of actors playing many roles of famous Hollywood stars and movie moguls.
Don’t miss this chance to revel in Ludwig’s witty storytelling and Shakespearean charm!
