Sweeney Todd for Hills

Sweeney Todd for Hills

The Hills Musical Society (NSW) will present Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, at the Don Moore Community Centre, Carlingford, for a strictly limited season from November 4, 2011.

This Stephen Sondheim musical, based on the 1973 play by Christopher Bond, tells a tale of lust, naivety, and abandon, an expose of the depravity of human nature; with a humorous undertone. Sweeney Todd, formerly known as the barber Benjamin Barker, returns to London, a shadow of his former self after his false conviction and transportation to Australia. With a thirst for vengeance and with the aid of down-trodden baker Mrs Lovett, a sinister plan is born. With renewed enthusiasm, Todd will reap revenge on those who stole his life, his true love and his freedom.

The principal cast includes Daniel Placido as Sweeney Todd; Celeste Notley-Smith as Mrs Lovett; Daniel Sakoulas as Anthony; Nicola Bowman as Johanna; Adam Haynes as Tobias; Brendan Paul as Pirelli; Clive Hobson as Judge Turpin; David Barron as the Beadle and Inara Molinari as the Beggar Woman/Lucy.

The Production Team is Director, Greg Wood; Assistant Director, Nicole Fidler; Choreographer, Kara Harris and Musical Director, Jeff Fisher.

Daniel Placido and Celeste Notley-Smith, pictured, are partners both on stage and in life.

Sweeney Todd will run for six performances only, November 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 8:00pm and November 5 and 12 at 2:00pm. Tickets are available at www.hillsmusicalsociety.comor by calling 8004 2966.  Tickets are $35 adult and $30 concessions, which includes supper.
