Who’s in Bed with the Butler at Adelaide Rep?
Michael Parker’s farce Who’s in Bed with the Butler is one of a string of box office hits written in the British style of naughty but nice, developed for the American Market. An interesting note is that Michael met his wife Susan in the theatre; in fact, he cast her in the role of “Suzy Legere” in his world premiere of “Who’s In Bed With The Butler?” in California, in which he had the role of the butler.
In 2023 the Adelaide Rep celebrates its 115th Birthday and from April 13 to 22 will bring this farce to the stage.
Director Warren McKenzie has been involved in theatre for over 35 years, directing numerous musicals, plays, pantomimes, theatre restaurant and radio play productions. He is an active member of the Adelaide Community Theatre scene and the webmaster for the Theatre Association of South Australia (TASA).
A California billionaire bequeaths nearly all his assets to his only daughter, Constance, except what he left for his three lovers. Hilarity erupts as Constance arrives at her father’s mansion to discover that his cars, yacht, and art collection have disappeared. The elderly, deaf housekeeper has a pet rat, and the butler has hired an actress to play his wife? Is the butler behind all the shenanigans?
