Awful Theatre for Brisbane

Awful Theatre for Brisbane

If you enjoy theatre that is provocative, challenging and fiercely imaginative you’ll be right at home with The Black Lung’s I Feel Awful, set to hit the stage for Queensland Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival from August 31. I Feel Awful is a black comedy about adoration, betrayal, bad art and awful people.

I Feel Awful is a blackly serious attempt to dissect art and a morality tale in the form of the rustiest old roller coaster you’ve ever seen, rolled into one bitter digestible chocolate treat...” according to Writer/Director Thomas M Wright. He continued, “It's Roald Dahl meets Robert Altman in a bitter fight to the death...”

The show is an incisive, pitiless and direct lesson on Theatre from Thomas M. Wright and the members of The Black Lung Theatre. It is a premiere work created for Queensland Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival, with a cast of sixteen.

Queensland Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Wesley Enoch, commented “Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Company are the naughtiest theatre company in the country. They question every acceptable norm to create a theatrical experience that speaks to a new generation of artists, audiences and critics.”

The Black Lung Theatre Awards include the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Best Production Award; ten Green Room Award nominations; The Adelaide Advertiser Award and Award for Best Venue for their residency in an abandoned building.
