#Since 1994
#Since 1994 features an all-female acrobatic team from Thailand. Impressive, balletic and often funny, this show is in in its last few days at FringeWorld.
Performer, creator and director Mei Chi-Ling (working under artistic director Li Shi-Yang) aims to create a revolutionary piece of theatre that is sophisticated, shatters stereotypes, and challenges what you think of the human body and what it can achieve. These women do this in spades. The acrobatics vary from gentle yet impressive poses - a sort of extreme yoga, to wild feet juggling of a table, stunning balance and fabulous work with a series of blocks. These women are often extremely funny - working without speaking, classic clowning and fabulous facial expression. Their teamwork and camaraderie is top notch and there is a notable girl power vibe.
Performers Lan Yi Yun, Chen Ting Yu, Hsiao Szu-Mien, Chen Yu-Jen and Li Shih-Yang have a wonderful sense of sister ship and their support for each other is obvious and palpable.
There is a fair bit of sexual sizzle - which they probably don’t need, and which seemed to be a bit too much for one little lad in the audience, but this a personal preference, and the amount of body on show seemed to be appreciated by many audience members.
Receiving a deserved standing ovation at the session I viewed, this is well worth a look.
