Bloom and Wonder

Bloom and Wonder
By Liisa Nuuk and Jeromy Nuuk. Hand some Feet and Fringe World. Rehearsal Room One, State Theatre Centre of WA. Jan 21 - Feb 1, 2025

If Stage Whispers’ first Fringe World show for 2026 is indicative of what is to come, we are in for great Fringe World Festival. Hands some Feet’s World Premiere of Bloom and Wonder, circus for babies and toddlers, is a gentle, warm little show that clearly appealed to its target audience, judging from the giggles and wide eyed-delight.

Likable performers Liisa Nuuk and Jeromy Nuuk perform a series of vignettes, that include ukulele and song, slow paced acrobatics (nevertheless very impressive), juggling, clowning and puppetry - including a very popular caterpillar who blows bubbles from its butt.

The vignettes move swiftly from one to another allowing for short attention spans, and there is no sudden movement or loud sounds, meaning it is very sensory and neurodiverse friendly.

Simply set, with three dimensional oversized flowers and two dimensional rocks, which give us a background, the performers were sweetly costumed - my only concern perhaps was that Jeromy’s see through shorts with shirt over the top tends to make him look a little undressed - perhaps longer undershorts?

At the very first performance the actors were a little tentative and seemed slightly nervous, which will no doubt improve as the show continues to run smoothly.

A great way for your little ones to experience theatre for the first time, this is feel good viewing for mum, dad or grandparents.
