The Flower That Fell From the Sky

The Flower That Fell From the Sky
By Heloise Wilson. Feet First Collective and Little Y. Directed by Teresa Izzard. The Blue Room Theatre, Perth Cultural Centre, WA. December 6-10, 2022

Presented by Feet First Collective and Little Y, this world premiere production was produced collaboratively with the company, and is an interesting blend of post-apocalyptic drama, an exploration of the strength of family and an examination of the power of self-belief.

A visually striking production, it features a set that appears to be made of cardboard - with multiple surprises. Set, props and costumes use predominantly black and grey, with occasional striking pops of colour, that provide meaning and show hope, in a gorgeous design from Samuel Addison. The feel is low tech - but inspired. There is a lovely, almost organic sound design from Lauren Beeton, while the production is sensitively lit from a design by Dylan Dorotich.

The cast of three play siblings, who have grown up away from their homeland, and they have a strong, very credible bond. Sensitive and beautiful performances from Mischa Ipp as Macha, Dylan Dorotich as Olga and Samuel Addison as Andrei, who work very well together delivering performances that are physically and emotionally impressive.

A complex but clever little story, The Flower That Fell From the Sky is interesting story telling that keeps its audience involved. A solid new work.
