Full Circle

Full Circle
By Janet Shaw. Directed by Barry Lefort. Stirling Theatre, Morris Place, Innaloo, WA. Nov 20 - Dec 5, 2020

Full Circle is an interesting little comedy with a spring in its step. Nicely directed and well performed, it is set as Nicola’s wedding day approaches - and a multitude of skeletons come crashing out the closet.

Gordon Park plays Nicola’s dad Brian, a leading role performed with lovely comic timing and great ring of truth detail. He works very well with Fiona Forster as his wife Linda, determined to make her daughter’s wedding day delightful, and another impressive performance. Kym Norris is very sweet as daughter Nicola, if a little softly spoken at times, in what might be her best performance to date.

Brian and Linda’s mothers haven’t spoken to each other since 1969, and are two very different women. Ann Speicher is a delight as Brian’s Harley Davidson riding, leather clad mum Dee, with Karin Staflund lovely as Linda’s more conservative mum Millie. The animosity between the two is very well portrayed.

Alec Fuderer brings some great comic moments as very camp, very lovely neighbour Wills. Carole Wilson performs nicely as Gloria, a visitor with an intriguing secret, while Richard Norman, who is developing quite a specialty in playing tiny cameo roles, completes the cast (and will serve you at the bar).

The set is well built and lovely to look at and is nicely completed by Ian Wilson’s lighting design.

This is a modern and of-our-time play, with the easy watching feel of an old drawing room comedy. A good fun night out at a well presented show.
