In Her Eyes

In Her Eyes
Indefinite Dance Company. Meat Market, North Melbourne. March 27 & 28, 2021.

In Her Eyes is an explorative new dance show by the all-female youth company Indefinite Dance Company, choreographed by the founder Casey Chellew and featuring choreographer Freya List in ‘Unravel’ in the closing of Act One.

In Her Eyes is an empowering production, celebrating the charm of dance while highlighting the individuality of each performer. Twenty-eight elegant dancers grace the stage with a unified dynamic force; there is strength, determination and team spirit. Abby Chappell takes to the floor in a solo performance to the remix of Matt Maeson’s “Shrine Tooth”, exuding a vigorous tribal /techno energy that is quite mesmerising to watch.

The amplified sound can be overwhelming and the bare stage, although bathed in colourful luminescent lighting, does compliment the entire cast but not so for the smaller acts. Some of the dance pieces are similar and dance movement appears repetitive. There is a wonderful dance with gossamer veils that oozes a certain kind of magic in Act One.

The finale is truly sensational, with an excellent performance by the entire team to Brando’s “Look into My Eyes”.

Indefinite Dance Company offers opportunities for dancers who want to continue their dance training while learning new ideas. This is a great chance for aspiring performers to come together and not only perform in ful -length productions but be in a creative company environment.
