I, AmDram

I, AmDram
By Hannah Maxwell. FringeWorld. The Cellar, The Liberty Theatre, Perth. Feb 11-15, 2026

Hannah Maxwell is a fourth-generation member the Welwyn Thalians Musical and Dramatic Society, and this hour-long one-woman show is a love letter to British amateur dramatics, a musical obsessed family and her hometown. Fresh, clever and funny, this hilarious yet moving show is a little Fringe treasure.

Community Theatre people - this is an absolute must see. While not all Western Australian thespians will find the Old Time Music Hall references familiar, the trials of auditions, the familiarity of rehearsals and the quirks of performing, will have you nodding in recognition. There is lots of (very non-threatening) audience interaction, and anyone who has performed in an am dram show will be nodding in recognition and finding extra laughs throughout.

Hannah is an extremely likable performer, who endears herself to the audience (and I found myself wondering if she’d stay in Perth and do my next show). You’ll find yourself crossing your fingers in support as she relives a tortuous audition for My Fair Lady, to an audition panel of her mother and grandmother.

Hannah is funny, clever and holds a tune well. There were not many community theatre people in the Opening Night performance - a shame as they are the people who will get the most out of this outstanding show.
