Precious Little Talent

Precious Little Talent
By Ella Hickson. Harbour Theatre. Directed by Ellis R. Kinnear. Camelot, Lochee St, Mosman Park, W.A. June 9 –25, 2023

Precious Little Talent, presented by Harbour Theatre, is directed by one of Western Australia's best up-and-coming directors, Ellis R. Kinnear, and features a strong cast.

British girl Joey has just been fired from her job in a pub. On a whim, she flies to New York to visit her estranged father, and meets an idealistic young American.

This small, tight cast includes Elysha Hayes as Joey, Mitch McAullay as Sam and Tom Reese as Joey's father George, who is trying to hide a sad dark secret.

Mitch and Elysha beautifully portray a developing and complex relationship, and their intimacy, nicely coordinated by Michelle Ezzy, is convincing and well portrayed. Tom's performance is sensitively drawn, and his portrayal of a man coming to terms with his dementia is very well crafted. Lovely ensemble work from this tiny cast.

The set, George’s New York apartment, is nicely created and the show is simply but thoughtfully lit from a design by Rob Tagliaferri.

This new play, performed for the first time in W.A., is well directed, created, and performed and deserves bigger audiences. A solid little show that makes for a great night out.
