Primal
Primal is the kind of out-there show that people think of when they think of Fringe Festivals but has two great things in its favor. 1. This show is very, very good. 2. No sticky tent for this one - you’re in the most comfortable venue in Fringe World.
Presented by Highwire Entertainment, this tight and wacky show has some serious themes including gender and sexual inclusion, and is highly female positive, with two females with incredible strength, carrying the “heavy lifting” of the acrobatics and cirque, and the third woman providing much of the (quite cheeky) comedy.
Compered in song by drag diva Leather Lung, singing live, with a voice that ranges from a stunning counter tenor to a warm sensuous baritone range - and wearing, with style, some of the most glamorous of the costumes in this show.
Excellent teamwork among all the cast, which also includes Kathryn O’Keeffe, Paul O’Keeffe, Emily Loe. Too Griffiths and Ciara Thorborn, who support each other’s acts with flair, and work in multiple combinations.
Acts include fire handling, lots of balance strength and acrobatics, a very interesting piece with a wine glass, silks and other aerials, all performed with consummate skill and professionalism and a liberal amount of sexiness. Acts are linked with dance - in various styles including some stunning and unique ballet en pointe.
This is a sensual late-night stunner, that I caught at a very reasonable 8.30pm. Gay and gender fluid positive this sexy show is a great choice for spicing up your Fringe experience.
