Sincerely Yours

Sincerely Yours
By Jason Arrow and Kohan van Sambeeck. Studio 411, Murdoch University, WA. Fringe World. Feb 18-20 2015

Fringe World premiered a number of new musicals and Sincerely Yours, presented by Stray Cats Theatre Co. and Mad Cats Theatre was a top class and worthy offering.

This beautiful and gentle three-hander features book and lyrics by Jason Arrow, music by Kohan van Sambeeck and Jason Arrow, with guitar arrangements by Campbell Ellis.

A lovely story set in the 1970s against the background of the Vietnam War, it centres on artist Sarah and her willingness to take a second chance at love.

Megan Kozak lends her gorgeous voice to Sarah, creating a character who is sweet, vibrant and loveable. Andre Drysdale plays the flawed but believable James, offering an amazing soaring falsetto and managing to remain likeable even when his character is being despicable. Jason Arrow gives a surreal, angelic touch to the very real and grounded Sean, in another impressive performance.

The five piece band are placed on the stage and do justice to the evocative score. The use of cello (played beautifully by Krista Low) was especially moving and used to great effect.

This impressive new work featuring the talents of recent WAAPA graduate Kozak and some present students in the cast and band, was perhaps a little overlooked being staged far from the central Fringe Hub. A moving new show that deserves a bright future.
