Tomas Clifford Got Stood Up

Tomas Clifford Got Stood Up
By Tomas Clifford. Directed by Tomas Clifford and Alexandria Henderson. The Rechabites Hall, Northbridge, WA. May 4, 2025

Tomas Clifford Got Stood Up, winner of Fringe World’s Martin Sims Award for Best New Western Australian Work, returned for a single performance as part of the Perth Comedy Festival.

This highly polished fusion of stand-up, rock concert, biographical drama and musical, feels like it is being played in a much larger venue (think Arena Concerts) and keeps its audience highly engrossed throughout.

While 21 is probably a little young for a life story, this bio-musical, based on Tomas’ life up to the devastating moment that he is stood-up on a dating app date, is fascinating, funny, frenetic and fabulously presented, with original songs (clever and comedic) performed with flair, by Tomas, a very talented band and three gorgeous back-up singers.

Barely fitting on the Rechabites Stage - the band, Ed Drake on keys, Jared Hemera on bass guitar, Josh Fairweather playing guitar, Malachi Maguire on drums, Zoe Boyd on trumpet and Gianni Petty on saxophone, are excellent.

Backing singers Miella Mundane, Saoirse Gerrish and Caia Della sound amazing and add sparkle.

Clean Morris' rock concert worthy lighting is stunning and Tomas looks great - including some stunning shoes.

A great piece of work from a very talented up and coming performer, this show was a  joy to experience.
