Grant High School has a well-deserved reputation for producing high quality musicals, and rock musical Zombie Prom, the school’s 27th offering since 1976, was no exception.
Writer Judith Prior comments on the production.
From the moment the curtains opened, Robin really Rocked! The up tempo rendition of the opening number Horror Movie set the pace as the enthusiasm and energy of the cast exploded over the edge of the stage and swept us all into the fantasy story. The High School Rock Eisteddfod team were accidentally swept back in time to medieval Sherwood Forest where Robin and Little John welcomed them with a "Thank God you're here!" and so it began.
A cast of 180 St Columba students took to the stage in this year’s musical presentation, Disney’s Aladdin Jr. In doing so they provided great entertainment to peers and parents. Performing for such a large and appreciative audience was clearly uplifting for them.
We found The Pirate Queen from Maverick Musicals a great first musical to tackle, as it had lots of fun roles, lots of parts that boys wanted to do (we had a bunch of year 7's take over the leprechaun roles; they were just rapt to be in it) simple costumes and staging and audiences wanted to see it - we had great houses that exceeded expectations. Everybody loves a pirate show – arrrhhh!! We also got great support from Maverick Musicals.
