Moulin Rouge Heading for Sydney

Moulin Rouge Heading for Sydney

The cast and creatives of Moulin Rouge! The Musical have been guests of honour at a glamorous soire in Sydney, ahead of the production's transfer to the Capitol Theatre in late May.

The champagne corks were popping and exotic canapes were quaffed at Cafe Sydney on a day off for the cast.

After a nightmare start due to Covid, the company is enjoying full houses for their season in Melbourne.

The 10-time Tony Award winning musical sees Baz Luhrmann’s revolutionary film come to life onstage remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers, with a book by Tony Award winner John Logan, music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tony Award winner Justin Levine, and choreography by Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh.

Opening in Sydney represents a homecoming for the cultural icon, which was filmed at Fox Studios 1999-2000; this year the film celebrates its 21st birthday! Sydney also holds a very special place in the hearts of the cast and crew as the show was first rehearsed in Sydney before making its Australian debut in Melbourne.

The costumes designed by Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber, are created in Sydney by Costume Design Associate Janet Hine and her team of artisan makers.

After a sell-out season in Melbourne, performances start 28 May at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney. New tickets up until 25 September 2022 are on sale exclusively through Ticketmaster
